I have been in awe of Frank Gehry’s spiral staircase at the AGO for years. I never imagined that one day I’d have dinner in the same space. Needless to say, I was super excited to be on the guest list for a magical evening at the AGO celebrating the launch of GE’s new CAFÉ appliance collection.

The event was hosted by the charming and super chatty TV star of Queer Eye; Antoni Porowski. The dinner was an absolute treat, while Antoni had us in stitches with his real-life stories and anecdotes. He really is just as nice and funny as he is on his Netflix show.

I know you want to see what this new appliance collection is all about, but before I start showing you the photos, I would like to make sure you know that this is not a sponsored ad. I genuinely am thrilled about this appliance line and I feel that you should know about it before you start planning your next kitchen renovation.

OK, so let me tell you about these gorgeous appliances and why I fell in love with them.

The Café Appliances are available in Matte Black and Matte White finishes. Both finishes are super cool. They made me think of European kitchens where everything is very chic, yet feel effortless and comfortable. Both colours are rich and seem velvety to the eye, and the finish is luxurious to the touch.

I envision the Matte Black fitting into a modern kitchen, with dark cabinetry. The inspirational imagine below gives a great visual on how striking the Matte Black Café appliances are when be paired with navy cabinetry and brass fixtures. I think the black appliances could be equally striking with green cabinetry, and of course black cabinetry is a classy and super cool pairing as well.

The Matte White is a little more traditional I think, yet it has an easy going, casual vibe. The stove and wall ovens especially remind me of appliances one would find in professional kitchens or culinary schools in France and Italy. I think the Matte White collection could easily slide into any of our existing kitchens and turn an average space into a chic, culinary inspired experience.

By the way, white is all the rage in Europe right now; we are seeing a resurgence of white appliances, white finishes, fixtures and white hardware at European trade shows. It’ll be a while until we embrace this new direction in North America, but I thought I would give you heads up on what’s next.

Ok, so we have covered the Matt Black versus Matt White finish and I have left the best part for last. As if the colour choices were not enough to make you consider the Café collection, then let me tell you that the product developers for Café appliances even thought of offering 4 different hardware colour options. Come on! Talk about truly personalizing your appliances. How fun is that? It’s like choosing jewellry for a special outfit. The 4 hardware options are: Brushed Black, Copper, Bronze and Stainless. These finish choices are applicable for pulls, knobs, hardware on the entire Café Appliance collection. This is an industry first and it’s pure genius.

I think the Café Appliances have touched a nerve in the North American consumer market. The collection boasts equal parts personality and performance, have culinary-inspired features straight from professional kitchens. We all want performance, but not all of us are gung-ho for the heaviness of other professional appliance lines. The Café Appliance Collection seems to have blended chic-ness together with high performance and arrived at a perfectly balanced product.
